On 16-17 June 2006 the US NAVY world famous demo team BLUE ANGELS participated at the Netherland Air Force Open Day Airshow 2006 (Open Dagen 2006) at Leeuwarden AFB. It has been a very special occasion for us to attend the event, since they had not performed in Europe since 1992. The put up an amazing show, starting with the C-130 Fat Albert display (JATO take off !!!) and going on with the beautiful 6 F/A-18 Hornet evolutions. Their performance was brilliant, full of power and spectacular. On Friday 16 June display, the F/A-18 number 5 had a tyre problem during take-off, but, after doing an assisted safe landing, the pilot was escorted to the  spare aircraft number 7 and continued the show!! ....a great proof of efficiency of the US Navy and a great show for us!!!!

On Friday another special event took place....an unique flypast of the Blue angels and the Red Arrows together...dedicated to the 60th birthday of the US Navy Blue Angels!!
